Welcome back to Hear's a Solution.  It's been a while since our last episode, and we want to express our gratitude for your patience and understanding during our hiatus. Today, we have a special episode as we return, and Chelsey and I are discussing some important topics that have impacted our team deeply.
In this episode, we'll address the reason behind our hiatus and share the difficult news of February 28th, 2023. We do want to share that this episode covers some topics around death and dying and we want everyone to know that if you or someone you know is experiencing grief or struggling with loss, we encourage you to seek support. Numerous resources are available, including https://thunderbay.cmha.ca/documents/grieving/. Remember, you're not alone; reaching out for help is a sign of strength.
Although our small and mighty team has been through a difficult period, we are committed to continuing the podcast.  In the coming weeks, we will return to our regular schedule, and we have some exciting episodes lined up. We will continue to explore Employee Relations, office dynamics, and the wonderful world of workplace conflict.
As we wrap up this special episode, we want to thank our listeners for their support, understanding, and patience during our hiatus. We are grateful to have such a supportive community, and we appreciate your continued engagement with our podcast. Stay tuned for our next episode, where we'll dive back into the fascinating world of employee relations.

I follow the motto: "You can't compete with me because I want you to win too."
This is why I was thrilled to have Deanne Gagnon of Deanne Gagnon Dynamics on the podcast. Deanne believes that "every single person should feel like a valued member of their team" and we think that that is pretty much our jam too.
We hope that you enjoy the chat as much as we did and for more information please checkout Deanne's website at:

Kate Lamers, the (unofficial) Brazilian Queen of Thunder Bay!
This Fall, I saw a social media post about how Stella WaxBar owner, Kate Lamers, was taking her staff to Mexico.
I immediately thought: "I need to get her on this podcast and learn how she made this a goal and incentivized her team to help achieve this goal!"
My second thought was:  "How fast can I learn how to wax, join her team, and get in on this trip?!"
It was an absolute pleasure to speak with Kate, and learn about why Taylor and others think that she is the best boss ever and how she keeps her staff loyal and committed to the Stella WaxBar family.

Feedback is a vital source of learning. Yet, receiving feedback is not easy, especially when it seems untrue, unfair, or poorly delivered. When you are receiving feedback, it’s about the story you tell yourself, about that feedback that will affect how you take it on and act on it.
Chelsey and I talk about our experiences with giving and receiving feedback and some of the stories that have stuck with us for a long time. Like as long as my arms...
Things we mentioned that you might want to check out:Thanks for the Feedback, by Douglas Stone and Sheila Heen:

What is an exit interview? Why are they important?
An exit interview is a rear-view approach to your organization and allows you to get the "inside scoop" on employee satisfaction.
No matter the size of your company, exit interviews provide an opportunity for an employee to discuss the workplace environment, concerns about misconduct, or issues within management.
In this episode, we also look at why having a third party handle the exit interview process has several advantages – guaranteed confidentiality helping ensure you get honest results, resources in place across different methodologies to collect feedback that proves truly actionable, and a much higher participation rate as well as a seamless process for your organization.

Employee Relations: How can we help?

On average, we spend a third of our life at work, approximately 90,000 hours!

That’s a lot of time with employees, managers, and coworkers. Workplace conflict is a unique situation that arises between coworkers, departments, and locations for various reasons. While workplace conflict is not necessarily negative (it can lead to differing opinions, creative solutions, and people coming up with new and innovative ways to approach situations), the road to success is not as clearly laid out as the yellow-brick road.

Guidance or assistance through workplace conflict is often the leverage an organization needs to be successful.

How organizational change is approached, from staffing to policy or procedural changes, can negatively impact your institution if not approached correctly. Therefore we offer additional consultation services when working through change management situations. Our solutions keep you in the driver's seat, as we want your organization's leaders to stay at the helm while changing. We see our solutions as an extra set of lungs, helping to keep the sails billowing while you steer the ship.
